Sensor building workshop at KWMC

Today we are learning how to build and programme sensors. Lots of creative thinking going on about how we can use them to collect valuable data for our projects.

Creating a time capsule for MemoryScapes

Here I am building a micro controller circuit (under the supervision of KWMC's tech manager Barry) for our MemoryScapes clock (or Time Capsule). When you open the face, music/memories/messages of your choice can play, and you can store memorabilia inside. Developed through workshops with older people, MemoryScapes is aimed to support people with dementia to reconnect with the past in a full sensory way.

The USBee

An excellent mural created by a group of young people for #STEAM week at KWMC. The USBee was made by recycling parts of old, broken tech.

Do you want your own bespoke Memory Chest or reminiscence workshop?

After MemoryScapes success over the past few months, KWMC has decided to create bespoke memory chests and reminiscence workshops for local community groups. So, if you work for an organisation that supports people with dementia, or you know a group of older people or young people who might be interested in exploring the history of Bristol through a sensory reminiscence experience, please get in touch with me. lucinda.thelwell@kwmc.org.uk, 01179030444

Crowd Funding Video for KWMC's JDP 'Visible You' Campaign

Some of you will have heard about the Visible You campaign set up by KWMC's JDP's which looks at tackling social isolation in teenagers. The JDP's (Junior Digital Producers) are young people themselves and they have made this crowd funding video to help sustain their project. The video is now live on the Made Open platform. It would be smashing if you could watch our video (see the link below), share our campaign on your facebook / twitter pages and even jump on board and back us. Any pledges will help keep the momentum on our campaign rolling and will keep our spirits up, even if it’s only a quid. It all helps. Thanks all and hope you enjoy! http://www.madeopen.co.uk/projects/visibleyou
